As an IT professional, it’s important to stay on top of your game and constantly be on the lookout for issues that could arise with your software installations. One such issue that we’ve recently encountered with our Prestashop installation is abandoned carts and customers unable to complete their checkout due to address section errors. In this blog post, we’ll detail how we identified and fixed these issues to ensure a seamless shopping experience for our customers.

Investigating Cache & Database

The first step we took was to investigate any cache flaws that may have been causing the issue. We know that Prestashop uses cache to improve website speed and performance, but it can also lead to inconsistencies if not properly configured. We checked the cache settings to ensure they were set up correctly and found a few issues that we quickly resolved.

The address field problem

However, we soon realized that the issue was not just limited to cache problems. After conducting a thorough investigation, we discovered that there were some issues with the fields Prestashop uses for addresses. We looked directly to the database as Prestashop is heavy DB oriented. We found the right table which handles address formats. This allowed us to trace it back to a past update that introduced some extra fields, which caused inconsistencies with the database. As a result, the form would reload, thinking that it was still missing input from the customer.

The solution

To resolve the issue, we decided to revert the changes back to the default settings for all countries. This involved removing any customizations that were made to the address fields and ensuring that all fields matched the database. After refreshing the browser, the problem seemed to be fixed.

While we were able to identify and fix the issue, we recognize that we need to continue monitoring the fixes. We need to ensure that the changes we made have not introduced any new issues or caused any other problems.

In conclusion, as an IT professional, it’s essential to have a proactive approach to maintenance and problem-solving. We were able to fix the issues with our Prestashop installation by investigating the cache and address field settings. We encourage our fellow IT professionals to stay vigilant and always be on the lookout for potential issues, so they can be resolved quickly and efficiently.
